Writing Through the Seasons (Winter Edition)
Event Details
- 19:00
- Online via Zoom
- From £25
Event Description
Poets have long celebrated human connectedness to the seasonal cycles of nature — from winter’s retreat and reflection, to the hopes and blooms of spring, to the bursting brightness of summer, to autumn’s shifts and preparations.
In this series of Writing for Wellbeing workshops, we will look to the poetry of seasons to inspire our own writing and reflection. Writing through the seasons, we’ll celebrate change, spark creativity, and resist stagnancy in our own lives.
Spring, Summer and Autumn workshops will be announced later in the year, currently scheduled for March, June, and October.

The Lapidus Cornwall group is hosting a morning of writing and sharing at the Chainlocker in Falmouth from 10.30-12.30 on Saturday 21st December. Bring a poem or prompt to share. We’ll spend an hour in silence, leaving our gifts on the table for others to read/write in response, then read aloud, share and enjoy. Attendance is free to Lapidus members but we ask for a donation of £5 if you are not a member.
I’m really excited to bring this workshop back again. (I think this is the 5th year running I will have hosted this particular workshop!) It takes place just a day before the New Year, the perfect time for a supportive and ritualistic gathering before the clock strikes.
The workshop is full of writing prompts designed to reflect on the year gone by and also to consider rebirth, creating sankalpas rather than New Year’s resolutions (a more yogic approach to goal setting).
It includes a lovely ritual you can do a midnight on the big day itself
These are all writing prompts I do myself each year and I love sharing it with a group of overs via Zoom.

Knowing, Being and Becoming: The Transformative Power of Writing as Inquiry
Presenter: Lauren Metcalfe
Saturday 4th January, 10:00am-11:15am.
In this session, I will share how I came to know myself, be myself and become myself through the process of using creative writing in self-study research. We will explore the concept of autoethnography, and the transformative power of creative writing as both a method of inquiry and a conduit to developing and curating a sense of identity.
About the Presenter
Lauren is a counsellor and psychotherapist, who has also recently embarked on the next chapter of her career as a lecturer and research supervisor. With a background in Linguistics and Phonetics, she has always been fascinated by the power of language, the way we can speak, think and write ourselves into existence, and how words shape and reflect our worlds. Her MSc research took the form of an autoethnographic exploration of mixed-race identity—a journey of in-betweenness, otherness and belonging.
