The power of shared writing time: Write Here, Right Now

During autumn 2025, Lapidus has been trialling a new event format, called Write Here, Right Now. We’re now welcoming feedback from members on these events.

Hosted once a month on a Wednesday lunchtime, this hour-long session offers a simple structure: a warm welcome from a Lapidus facilitator, a chance to briefly connect with fellow members, and then uninterrupted self-directed writing time. Whether you’re journalling, reflecting, or working on a creative project, writing in the quiet company of others can bring focus, motivation, and a sense of shared purpose.

The aim of the events is to take a mindful pause in the week and join a calm, supportive online space for Lapidus members to come together and write. We meet on Zoom. No pressure, no prompts — just you, your words, and a community that understands the power of writing for wellbeing.

Lapidus Chair, Mel Perry, reflects:

It has been fantastic to see members respond to our pilot of a quiet writing space every month since September. Thank you to Gina Beach and Alison Cable who shared holding the space with me each month. I was delighted to see 13 participants attend the third session of the pilot on 19th November, when we all quietly wrote for an hour. The gathering was truly international as they came from North Wales, Liberia-West Africa and Maryland-US, amongst other places.

Writing is like a box of treasures; as I wrote, right then, developing some ideas I have for a new poetry collection, I felt a key turn in my mind and on the page. The treasure box lid opened to reveal some of the detail of memories I can write into.  These came to me thanks to the quiet permission of those alongside me who also researched or wrote during the hour.

Participants expressed gratitude for the session, some describing it as a healing experience, a generative time, offering time to research new writing ideas or finish off pieces. Some described it as a valuable and fruitful hour and they would appreciate the opportunity for it to continue.

Initially we will offer a further session on Wednesday 17th December, 1.00-2.00p.m. UK time, while the Board considers how this offer fits with other plans and who might be in the cohort of volunteers we would like to invite to support holding the space.

If you would like to join the December edition of Write Here, Right Now, please log in to the website and find the joining details on the event page.

And, as we review the pilot and look ahead to events in 2026, feedback from members is welcome and greatly appreciated. You don’t have to have participated in a Write Here, Right Now session to have your say — every voice is valuable.

Please contact Flo, our Membership & Creative Development Lead, to share your feedback: membership@lapidus.org.uk.
