Visualise yourself - and your words - by the sea
Saturday 2nd March, Hastings
On Saturday 2nd March, in Hastings, Julia Bird and Jon Sayers we will be looking at the value of adding a visual dimension to our words, honouring the language we’ve created by turning it into an artefact for added impact and memorability.
Julia, who has published three poetry collections, has had a long career in poetry and public engagement and is currently Projects Manager at The Poetry Society. She regularly uses visual approaches in her work and teaching practice and in her other role as independent producer and promoter at Jaybird Live Literature, where she describes her professional specialities as 'producing touring live lit shows and devising bookish projects with public involvement’. Jon has spent an entire career combining words with imagery in advertising.
The morning will be largely experiential, offering you a few 'quick wins' that you can immediately incorporate into your practice - and we’ll be inviting you to share your ideas, too. We’ll also point you towards some further resources you can explore later.
Looking forward to sharing a glorious technicolor, hands-on, immersive, text visualising session with you by the sea - and, for those who can join, lunch afterwards in Hastings Old Town followed by an optional beach walk.
The writing and visualising session itself will run from 10.00am - 1.00pm. Please book your place early. The event is taking place at Jon’s home - an historic Regency house in Hastings Old Town - and we can accommodate a maximum of 14 people.
