This will be a two-part session.
Part One, starting at 10am, will be Clowning Around with Words, led by Hazel Ettridge.
Hazel writes: There's a lovely quote from Winnie the Pooh, which hopefully sums up what we'll be doing in the first half of the next meeting. "When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it."
Clowns and Bears of Very Little Brain have a lot in common!
Part Two, after the break, will be Playfulness Rebellion, led by Felicity Stephen and Nicky Torode. Felicity and Nicky write: “We’ll be inviting you to engage in active play through a mime/guessing game, to recall and reflect on a playful moment from your life and to work together to iinvent ways to bring more play into your lives through a Playfulness Rebellion…. And, of course, some writing! There’ll also be an opportunity for each of us to share something playful we may have incorporated in our own recent writing for wellbeing sessions.”
Saturday 14th March. The session will run from 10am-1pm with lunch afterwards for those who are able to join.

The Southwater Centre is the large pink building to the north side of Warrior Square station - you can see it from the platform.
There is cheap and free parking close by.
It's being used until 10.00 a.m. but we can gather in the cafe/lounge on the ground floor where we can get tea or coffee for a 50p donation and move up as soon as it is vacated.
The usual suggested donation of £5 a head to cover the cost of the room hire.

Your workshop leaders
Hazel Ettridge is a trained mindfulness teacher, a facilitator for Writing for Wellbeing workshops and has completed 5 years’ clown training with Nose2Nose. Her current passions are Storytelling and Creative Journalling. Hazel’s CV spans a career in theatre management and arts administration and a career in training, education and community development. She spent two years doing voluntary work in Nepal as a Management and Training Adviser with disability organisations and with the Aarohan Theatre Company. She also spent one year as a volunteer with a Camphill Community, living and working with adults with learning disabilities. She worked for many years in Further and Higher Education as a lecturer and manager and has delivered teacher training programmes, and worked as a Learning Mentor. She has also worked in Mental Health as a volunteer trainer and coordinator and as a team leader. Most recently she worked as a Treatment Manager and facilitator for cognitive behavioural groups with the probation service.
Felicity Stephen is a trained and experienced writing for wellbeing facilitator who is currently working towards the final part of an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes (CWTP); together with Nicky Torode, she has been running Words for Wellbeing Hastings since September 2017 - a partnership that is continuing to develop through their individual and joint projects – in recent times working in tandem to promote Hastings’ Library’s Wellbeing Box initiative, through CWTP, and running a sell-out workshop for The Hastings Literature Festival 2019. In the summer of 2018, Felicity began working together with Lambeth Autism group offering writing for wellbeing to both carers and individuals on the autism spectrum - the start of a new and inspiring collaboration. Felicity also works as a voluntary English tutor and newly fledged PGCE and ESOL teacher – currently working with refugees in Hastings and St Leonards – while developing her own writing through poetry and a work-in-progress novel. Her background is an interesting mixture that includes journalism, editorial, and managerial roles in a variety of settings; she also has extensive experience in mental health – through advocacy, care and campaign work. This background, she feels, gives depth to her facilitation skills in writing for wellbeing – along with an excellent training at The Metanoia Institute in London. Her work in this field promotes and encourages the potential for CWTP to help facilitate self-nurturing, discovery, connectedness and much more – through the self-expression of participants in a friendly, safe and respectful group situation. Felicity has also used writing for wellbeing on a one-to-one basis in her workshops at Sussex Coast College Hastings.
Nicky Torode holds an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes, a Level 3 certificate in Counselling Skills, and an ILM-endorsed qualification in Coaching Skills. She delivered a series of writing for wellbeing courses at Morley College in 2016-17 in a SLaM-funded project for learners with mild mental health conditions. She has also delivered ‘Start the Week Write’ journaling and creative writing for wellbeing workshops to members of the public in Hastings and, with Felicity Stephen, Words for Wellbeing workshops in libraries and wellbeing centres. As part of her MSc research, she ran expressive and creative writing workshops with business executives who are speakers of other languages. Nicky’s current interest is in using journaling and expressive writing to help people in business – whether they’re freelance individuals, small start-ups or executives in big businesses – restore their work/life balance and increase productivity. This work brings together the various strands of her career as a career coach, adult education tutor in personal development and employability, trainer and mentor in business start-up, English language business teacher and education materials writer. Nicky has also had a career in international human rights and UK community development.
